The State Library of NSW is celebrating photography throughout 2013. February features the opening of our photography exhibition, The Greatest Wonder of the World, plus a great line-up of events.
The Greatest Wonder of the World, opening 23 February
The heady days of Australia’s goldrush will spring into life in extraordinary detail when 100 B&W images from the State Library of NSW’s world-renowned Holtermann collection go on show for the first time in The Greatest Wonder of the World exhibition. The photographs on show capture the realities of a goldrush era through a showcase of large format prints of gold towns and portraits of townspeople in NSW and Victoria from 1870 to 1875. These goldrush images feature alongside stunning shots of Sydney and Melbourne from the same era.
