Des Bettany – Heigh-Ho

This is a parody of the Disney animated film, ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’, released in 1938. In the film, the dwarfs go to work singing ‘Heigh ho, heigh ho, it’s off to work we go’. In this cartoon, the POWs go ‘off to work’ with their minder, a diminutive Japanese guard. Once again, Des moves away from the cruelty of the situation as a POW by using his imagination and painting quite the opposite of what occurred, that is, well-fed, happy men wearing decent clothing and footwear, with a friendly guard leading the way, and who can’t wait to get back to work.
