Women Journalists at War: 7 December 2016

At History House next Wednesday, Dr Jeannine Baker will share stories of trailblazing female journalists. Since Agnes Macready travelled to South Africa in 1900 to cover the Boer War for the Catholic Press, Australian women have fought for the right to report on conflict. In the watershed years of World War II, more than twenty Australasian women reported from overseas and on the home front.

Dr Jeannine Baker is an historian who researches Australian media history and women’s history. She was awarded the University of Melbourne’s 2014 Dennis-Wettenhall Prize for Australian History. She has also worked in the media and museum sectors as a researcher, curator and documentary maker. Her book, Australian Women War Reporters, is published by NewSouth Books ($39.99).

This is the final RAHS Day Lecture for 2016. Light refreshments will be served following this free event in the Reception Rooms at History House.
